Light-Up Iperu Scheme, IDA Calls for Timely Bill Payments and Prepaid Meter Adoption to Sustain Stable Power Supply

In the statement, Chairman of the board, Prince Wale Oyekoya, urged residents to swiftly pay their bills and embrace the use of prepaid meters. For nearly two weeks, Iperu has enjoyed uninterrupted power, a feat attributed to the Light-Up Iperu Scheme Management Board's collaborative efforts with various stakeholders. This development follows the IBEDC's request for regular bill payments to recoup investments and maintain continuous power supply.
Prince Oyekoya emphasized the necessity of timely bill payments, saying, "To sustain the current stable electricity supply, prompt payment of electricity bills is crucial." He also encouraged the installation of prepaid meters in homes to ensure accurate and effective energy consumption metering.
The appeal comes after the board's engagements with key entities such as the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Limited, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the Honourable Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu. These discussions addressed the erratic power supply previously experienced in Iperu and have led to the significant improvement in electricity availability.
The board expressed gratitude to the minister and governor for their support and thanked the transmission and distribution companies for the enhanced power supply. In a bid to consolidate this progress, the board announced plans for a sensitization program. This initiative will include courtesy visits to Royal Fathers, meetings with Ward Heads and Community Development Associations, and town hall meetings with various stakeholders.
Key topics for discussion during these engagements will include the importance of regular bill payments, the benefits of effective metering, the security of power infrastructure, and the need for community support and donations to the board.
In a related development, the Iperu Development Association (IDA) have also issued an urgent appeal to community members. IDA President Otunba Taiwo Oyebanjo highlighted the positive impact of the recent uninterrupted power supply on the community's quality of life and local businesses. He stressed that maintaining this progress depends on the community's commitment to paying their electricity bills on time.
“The uninterrupted power supply we have enjoyed is a direct result of our collective efforts. To ensure that this continues, we must all play our part by paying our electricity bills promptly,” Oyebanjo stated. He urged community leaders to actively communicate this message to their members and emphasized that prompt bill payment is a crucial investment in the community’s future.
Oyebanjo also called on members of Community Development Associations (CDAs) and the Olorutuns to spread the word about the importance of paying electricity bills on time to reduce unpaid bills and strengthen the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to continue providing reliable power.
The IDA's appeal underscores a broader commitment to community development and self-sufficiency. By ensuring timely bill payments, the Iperu community can continue to enjoy the benefits of uninterrupted power supply, fostering a more prosperous and sustainable environment for all residents.
Light-Up Iperu Scheme Management Boardin collaboration with IDA, remains dedicated to a brighter future for Iperu, powered by collective responsibility and mutual support.
