Federal Government Approves Irrigation and Mini Stadium Projects for Iperu
The Federal Government of Nigeria has granted approval for two significant projects in Iperu, aimed at enhancing food security and local infrastructure.
The first initiative is an irrigation project designed to support year-round farming, which includes the construction of a dam and water works.
This development will facilitate continuous crop cultivation, ensuring a steady supply of affordable food items and providing potable water to Iperu and its neighboring areas.
This announcement was made by Tope Oyekan, the Liaison Officer and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Chairman of the Iperu Mini Stadium Committee. Oyekan highlighted that the projects would greatly benefit the community by improving agricultural productivity and providing recreational facilities.
Additionally, the Iperu Mini Stadium Project has also received federal approval. This new sports facility is intended to serve as a venue for the Ojude Oba Celebrations, a prominent annual festival in Iperu, and to support local recreational activities. Construction plans for the stadium are moving forward alongside the irrigation project.
Engr. Deji Ashiru, Managing Director of the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority, announced these developments during a visit to His Royal Highness, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo (Odoru V), at his palace on Friday. Engr. Ashiru, accompanied by members of his team, assured the Alaperu that funding for the projects is secured in the 2024 budget, with a projected completion timeline of six months.
The Alaperu expressed gratitude to both the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority and President Bola Tinubu's administration for their support.
Alhaji Otunba Denny Ibrahim Oladipupo, Chairman of the Iperu Remo Mini Stadium Project Committee, also thanked Engr. Ashiru for his visit and highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure the stadium meets the needs of the community and the Ojude Oba Celebrations.
Following the announcement, Engr. Ashiru and his team conducted on-site assessments of the project locations at Atenda and Ibu (Eri) River.
The Building Sub-committee of the Iperu Mini Stadium Project, led by Otunba Owolabi Ogunjimi, is set to meet with the Alaperu to finalize project details as part of their ongoing efforts.
The Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, oversees the development and management of water resources and related infrastructure, aiming to improve quality of life and promote socio-economic development.
