Ogun State Seeks Partnership with Brazilian Livestock Giant JBS

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended an invitation to Brazilian livestock giant JBS for a potential partnership. During a meeting on Tuesday at the governor's office in Abeokuta, Abiodun emphasized Ogun's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, making it an ideal location for global companies like JBS.

JBS, with a legacy spanning over seven decades, is a global leader in protein production, particularly in beef, pork, and chicken. The company also produces convenience foods and processed meats. During the meeting, Governor Abiodun highlighted Ogun State's status as a hub for agro-processing and industrial activity in Nigeria, citing the presence of major global brands such as Nestlé, Olam, and Cadbury.

The governor also announced that Ogun is home to one of the country’s most advanced agro-processing zones, positioning the state as the leader in agro-industrial development. Abiodun pointed out that the state’s infrastructure, including a special agro-airport designed for efficient air-freight of perishable goods, would provide the ideal ecosystem for companies like JBS to thrive.

In addition to JBS's potential investment, Governor Abiodun revealed that Ogun State is finalizing a $10 million deal with a Moroccan firm to export by-products of palm oil, further underscoring the state's growing role in global trade.

Fabio Maia, JBS's Director of International Expansion, expressed the company’s interest in building multiple facilities in Nigeria, including plants for poultry, cattle, and swine, with an initial $2.5 million investment. This is part of the company's broader plans following a memorandum of understanding signed with the Federal Government of Nigeria during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Brazil.

The meeting reflects Ogun's proactive stance in attracting foreign investments, further enhancing its reputation as a prime destination for agricultural and industrial ventures.
