Tawakalitu Mosque, Iperu Remo, Appoints New Imam Following Demise of Former Leader
Tawakalitu Mosque in Iperu Remo has appointed a new Imam following the death of the former leader, Alhaji Taofeek Odesola, who served diligently for over a decade.
The new Imam, Alhaji Muhammad Yusuf Ologede, has been officially selected by the members of the mosque, with plans underway for his turbaning ceremony.
During the program, Sheikh Abdul Wasiu Khamzah Akorede, Idunnu Obi, the Chief Imam of Tawakalitu Central Mosque, Elebiju Ketu, Lagos, delivered a heartfelt lecture emphasizing the responsibilities and significance of the Imam’s position, drawing from his personal experiences.
He stated, "Leadership is about service, not about commanding authority. An Imam's position is not one of wealth or power but of humility and loyalty. From my experience, followers will only respect and relate with their leader if they see tangible benefits from their guidance."
Sheikh Idunnu Obi further advised the new Imam to show respect to the elders of the mosque and not perceive them as subordinates or messengers. Concluding his lecture, he urged the congregation to support the new Imam wholeheartedly, reminding them that he now bears the responsibility for the affairs of the mosque.
In an interview, Alhaji Muhammad Yusuf Ologede expressed gratitude and humility, stating, "God is the master of all events. He has knowledge beyond our understanding. I urge all members of Tawakalitu Mosque to cooperate with me as we embark on this new journey. I request their support and partnership in developing the mosque, and I promise to reciprocate their commitment."
Alhaji (Dr.) Haroon Aro Awoleiro, reflecting on the appointment, remarked, "I am happy for this turbaning ceremony. When he was called for the position, it was clear this was a divine development, as members of the community, Ulamahs, and other Imams approved his appointment. May Almighty Allah support him."
Alhaji Habeeb Oyefusi, Ọtun Baba Adeen of Tawakalitu Mosque Iperu Remo and Baba Adeen Tawakalitu Central Mosque, Elebiju Ketu, advised the new Imam to prioritize unity and love among the congregation, adding, "The of an Imam requires patience and contentment."
Alhaji Yushau Oyefusi also shared his excitement about the appointment, saying, "This is a day we've been waiting for since the demise of the late Imam. I can confidently say that we chose the right person, as he possesses all the qualities required of an Imam."
The inauguration ceremony for the new Imam will be announced soon.
